Finding Our Way

“Receive the Holy Spirit” John 20:22b

Getting lost is never fun.  To a fisherman or hunter being able to locate your exact position and areas where fish and wildlife frequent is a critical consideration.  To a driver in a vehicle or pilot in an airplane having real-time information is essential to accurately finding your destination.

In the late 1990’s several marine electronic manufacturers offered portable Global Positioning Systems (GPS) that utilized commercial satellite receivers to help people precisely define their coordinates anywhere in the world. Today, the market is saturated with all types of GPS units of various sizes, shapes, and prices. Most automobile manufacturers offer GPS units on their options list. And there are so many handheld devices that anyone wishing to be connected can do so for less than $100.

There are at least 24 satellites that continuously broadcast radio signals from 12,000 miles above the earth to aid folks in finding their way. In order for the unit to work you must have three or more satellites link to your unit.  Many units even have built-in base-maps covering all major roads and cities that will guide you to any location.

I like the advertisement one manufacturer has placed in the fishing catalogs, “The world is a big place, but finding yourself in a big world isn’t a problem anymore thanks to …GPS.”   We spend a great deal of time and resources trying to find our way in the world, but what are you using to guide your spiritual life?

The best GPS system I’ve found is God’s Positioning Steps.  When God is positioning our steps we cannot go wrong.  King Solomon had some good advice for all of us, "In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps." Proverbs 16:9  "A man’s steps are directed by the Lord. How then can anyone understand his own way?" Proverbs 20:24

If God is not at the center of your internal guidance system, what has replaced that void?  For some they have filled that void with the pursuit of power, fame or fortune.  A few have sought out cultic religions that promise peace and harmony but deliver confusion and pain.

It is interesting to note that a GPS device can only work if it is connected to three satellites.  And so it is with the life of a person trying to find their way in this goofy world. We need God the Father, Jesus His Son, and the Holy Spirit active in our lives to make the right decisions and find our way through life.  "You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ." Romans 8:9

If you have accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Savoir you will have an internal guidance system, the Holy Spirit, which will be with you always.  The Apostle Peter told the assembled multitudes that, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

This guidance system doesn’t run out of batteries and is not affected by ozone layers or sunspots. It is given of God and available to everyone who wishes to have it.  It will help guide you when you are lost; comfort you when you are lonely; inspire you when things are most difficult; direct you in the paths of honor; and convict you when your course is set for destruction.

The purchase price for this Heavenly guidance system is nothing.  The cost was paid 2000 years ago by a suffering Savoir who died on the cross for our sins.  Have you studied the benefits of connecting with God, the words of Jesus, and the Holy Spirit?  There are eternal guarantees that are available to all who wish to accept God’s gifts to us.  Order yours today!  Just call John 3:16.

Have a blessed week.  Thank you for your prayers for Madison Rinehart, the girl who was in the hospital with DKA (Diabetic Ketoacedosis). She is back to school and adjusting to her new "normal."

Serving you.  Jim Grassi
