Do You Believe in Miracles?

“A man with leprosy came to him and begged him on his knees, “If you are willing, you can make me clean.” Mark 1:40

In this fast-paced, high-tech world some people have forgotten about the miracles God has done, is doing, and will do.  Mankind has explored the depths of the universe and the bottom of the seas.  We have modified DNA and created artificial parts for the human body.  Through technology, we can supply an endless stream of information and artificial intelligence.  But the reality is we still can’t create miracles.

Sometimes the power of God, through His mighty miracles, gets overshadowed by the sizzle and flash given to man’s accomplishments.  The reading of God’s word is a good reminder of how our Father works through miracles (see Isaiah 29 and Mark 9).

God’s name is miracle.  What man sees as impossible, He sees as possible.  Before you come to a relationship with the living God, we describe unplanned situations as “chance”.  A believer looks for God’s hand in those impossible-indescribable situations. Our problem is that our head (knowledge) does not let our heart (God’s spirit) take control of our lives.

The prophet Isaiah reminds us of the same thing, "Therefore once more I will astound these people with wonder upon wonder; the wisdom of the wise will perish, the intelligence of the intelligent will vanish.”" Isaiah 29:14  The Psalmist tells us, "Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced," Psalm 105:5

In speaking about the miracles he did, Jesus addressed his scoffers with this comment, “I have testimony weightier than that of John. For the very work that the Father has given me to finish, and which I am doing, testifies that the Father has sent me." John 5:36

In the midst of our personal storms, it is sometimes difficult to remember that God is still in the business of doing miracles.  Ask those who have been miraculously healed of cancer.  Look to those men and women who conquered their fears and mental problems.  Talk to the farmers and ranches that annually see God’s miracles from the soil.  Moms and dads who experience the birth of a child will testify that miracles do happen.

When life’s trails hit the hardest, we too often let fear take a foothold in our thinking.  Remember, the opposite of fear is faith that ultimately builds courage.  Take a few minutes to read about the miracle found in Mark 1:40-45.  Jesus heals a man of leprosy.  Today, through the power of the Holy Spirit Jesus is healing people.  He is the ultimate comforter, encourager, healer, and provider.  He is our advocate.  It is good medicine to believe that nothing is impossible for God.

The Apostle Paul reminds us: “Men of Israel, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know." Acts 2:22

Have a blessed week!  Jim
