September 7, 2009 - Coping with Change

Change is inevitable! There are times in our lives that drastic changes have to occur so we can adapt to the situation. Adapting to change has become a routine part of our daily existence.  And the pace at which we live our lives speaks of a “hurried sickness” found among most Americans.  The computer industry is an example of how what is current technology or effective today, may not be tomorrow.  Yes - we live in a fast-paced, ever changing world.

For some people their values and character is constantly being challenged.  What we blushed at only a few years ago is now seen as common language and action.  Those unmentionables are now freely discussed on television and radio talk shows.  Like the pendulum on a grandfather clock, social standards and acceptable behavior changes back and forth.

With all the change and adaptation, it is good to know that there are some things that will never change.  As believers we can count on the fact that, “I the LORD do not change. So you, O descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed.” Malachi 3:6

God’s love will never change

“See how I love your precepts; preserve my life, O LORD, according to your love”. Psalm 119:159
The LORD appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness”. Jeremiah 31:3

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord”. Romans 8:38-39

God’s Word will never change

“The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God stands forever.”  Isaiah 40:8

“But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work”. 2 Timothy 3:14-17

God’s purpose will never change

“He who is the Glory of Israel does not lie or change his mind; for he is not a man, that he should change his mind.” 1 Samuel 15:29

“But the plans of the LORD stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations”.  Psalm 33:11

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28

Dear friend, please know that the only thing you can really count on is a relationship with God.   Whether you’re in business, a homemaker, a laborer, President of the United States or an NFL player, change will occur.  If you allow your mood and attitude to be regulated by a lack of stability and consistency in your life then you open yourself up to some major disappointment and an unfulfilled life.
The most together people I know recognize this fact and seek the stability in life that can only come through a personal relationship with the living God.
